Background
In this article we are focusing on Narok County Integrated Development Plan 2018-2022. This is the second five-year plan since the start of devolution in Kenya.
“CIDP II is my contract with the people of Narok who overwhelmingly voted for my administration to complete programmes and initiatives started in my first tenure in office,” Samuel Kuntai Tunai, Narok County Governor.
County integrated plans contains the promises that Governors made during the campaign period.
“County Integrated Development Plan II encapsulates my promises to the residents of Narok articulated during the election campaign and during my inauguration to office ceremony held in August 2018,” Governor Tunai.
Narok County integrated development plan reports that the county covers an area of 17,933 square kilometers. This makes Narok County the 11th largest County in Kenya.
Administrative Units
According to Narok County Integrated Development Plan, Narok is divided into 6 sub-counties and 30 wards.
Population
According to Kenya Population and Housing Census 2009, population was 850,920 people. This population grows at a rate of 4.7 percent. Projections shows that there were 1,130,703 people in Narok County in 2018 and they are projected to increase 1,282,097 people by 2022.
Narok County is dominated by the Maasai and Kalenjin Community. There are other communities such as Oromo and Ogiek. The two are classified as marginalized communities.
Narok County is endowed with diverse natural resources such as the Maasai Mara National Reserve, gold and Mau forest.
