Nandi Ndaitwah is the current Prime Minister of Namibia. She is also the current SWAPO Vice President. Nandi has a long and colourful career in the ruling party. She is the first female presidential candidate for SWAPO.
Nandi-Ndaitwah served as Minister for Environment and Tourism from March 2010 to December 2012.
Nandi-Ndaitwah was educated at St. Mary’s Mission in Odibo.
In 1974, Nandi-Ndaitwah went into exile in Zambia where she worked at SWAPO Headquarters in Lusaka.
Between 1975 – 1976, Nandi-Ndaitwah undertook a course at Lenin Higher Komsomol School in Soviet Union from where she earned a Diploma in Work and Practice of Communist Youth Movement.
In 1987, Nandi-Ndaitwah earned a post graduate degree in Public Administration and Management from Glasgow College of Technology in the United Kingdom.
In 1988, Nandi-Ndaitwah graduated with a post graduate diploma in international relations from Keele University in UK.
In 1989, Nandi-Ndaitwah obtained a Masters degree in diplomatic studies from Keele University.
He political career is long and decorated. She served as SWAPO Deputy Representative in Lusaka Zambia from 1976 to 1978. Starting 1978 to 1980 she was SWAPO chief representative in Zambia.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also served as SWAPO chief rep in East Africa based in Dar es Salaam.
Nandi-Ndaitwah was a member of SWAPO Central Committee from 1976 to 1986. In addition to those roles, she has been serving as a Member of Parliament since 1990.
From 1996, Nandi-Ndaitwah was the Director General of Women Affairs in Office of the President. She served until 2000.
From 2000 Nandi-Ndaitwah was nominated Minister for Women Affairs & Child Welfare. She also served as Minister for Information and Broadcasting (2005 – 2010). She also served as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Personal Life
She is married to Liutenant General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah.
