Nancy Pelosi is expected to land in Taiwan today (Tuesday) despite threats of retaliation from China.
This will be the first trip made by senior U.S. official since 1997. China is claiming Taiwan as its territory hence the strong protests from China.
China did not specify how they will retaliate if Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan.
For those who are not aware, Nancy Pelosi, is the speaker of House of Representatives.
Reports reaching our desk is that the plane carrying Nancy Pelosi had entered the Taiwan airspace. She was traveling on a U.S. Air-force plane.
She is expected to land in Taipei. Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan is used to show support for the island democracy according to CBS News.
She is the first U.S. House Speaker to visit the Island in 25 years.
The Associated Press believes that the land of Nancy Pelosi in Taiwan will escalate tensions between China and U.S.A.
Sources reveal that Nancy will stay in Taiwan overnight at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei.
Signs were erected on Taipei 101 building reading: “Welcome to Taiwan, Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”
