Two Ghanaian-Americans have made history by being the first mother-and-daughter duo to attend medical school at the same time, and then be posted in the same hospital.
Cynthia Kudji, 49, who was born in Kenyasi, Ghana, together with her daughter, Jasmine Kudji, 26, graduated few weeks ago.
The two physicians were placed at Louisiana State University Health in Louisiana, United States.
Cynthia said that working with her daughter had been a ‘’dream come true’’.
Cynthia was born in Ghana and migrated to the US when she was two years old. During a family trip back to Ghana, she was inspired to become a doctor. She was 17 at that time.
“I feel so proud to have gone through this journey with my mum – to inspire other women and other people of colour to do the same thing. Jasmine told BBC Focus on Africa.
“I’m just so excited to continue on this journey.”
Cynthia and her daughter are now working on the frontline in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘’This is a time when physicians can be leaders, show that we contribute, we make a difference in people’s lives. This is where we get the opportunity to serve,” Cynthia said.
“I’m glad I’ll get to do something that people need now more than ever with my daughter.”
