Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Mining Unveiled the Mineral Rights Board
After a long wait, the CS for Mining Mr. Dan Kazungu has unveiled the Mineral Rights Board. This is a very important institution under the Mining Act 2016.
The board’s functions are highlighted in Section 31 of the Mining Act, 2016. Below is an extract:
You can notice that the Mineral Rights Act will be in charge of granting, suspension and renewal of mining licenses among other duties.
The extract below shows the membership structure:
The Mineral Rights Board will be made up of 9 members. The Principal Secretaries from National Treasury and Ministry of Mining; the Chairperson, the Chair of National Land Commission (NLC); the Directors of Mines and Geological Surveys and two other persons with professional qualifications in mining industry.
