Coronavirus deaths in Mexico have passed the 15,000 mark, the government confirmed on Wednesday, as the country recorded its highest number of infections in a day.
Health official Jose Luis Alomia confirmed in a press address that 4,833 new cases were recorded, bringing the total to 129,184. A further 708 fatalities were reported, bringing the total number of deaths to 15,357.
Health undersecretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell warned that case predictions for the country had expanded in the same meeting.
‘’We have close to 17 or 18 days in which the decline of the [epidemic] curve has stalled, [but] it has not gone up,’’ he said, explaining the pattern of infections and deaths.
On May 29, Lopez Gatell said that Mexico would see more than 30,000 deaths from coronavirus.
However, he did not give the time frame for that milestone.
Mexico, which has 127 million inhabitants, recorded the highest number of deaths in a day from Coronavirus on 3rd June. 1,092 deaths were reported.
