Leicester City beat Southampton 9-0 in a Premier League match that was played yesterday night at the St Mary’s Stadium. The match attracted over 28,000 fans.

Referee Andre Marriner dismissed Southampton’s Ryan Betrand in the 12th minute with Leicester City 1-0 up.

Leicester City forwards Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez bagged hat tricks as Youri Tielemans, Ben Chilwell and James Maddison scored one each.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers praised his team’s performance.

‘’I am very pleased with our work rate. We scored some great goals and we were very hungry tonight. I am very pleased with how we defended and how ruthless we were. I’m very proud to stand and be the manager of that team. ‘’ Said Rodgers.

Southampton Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl took full responsibility of the defeat and apologized to the fans.

‘’That was one of the tough ones tonight. The performance was a disaster and I have to apologize and take 100% responsibility. ‘’ Said Hasenhuttl.

Saints Captain Pierre-Emile Hojberg also tendered his apologies to the fans.

‘’I can only put my head in front of the team and say the only thing that matters is what we do going forward, and we can never let something like this to happen again. It’s very embarrassing and very difficult for the whole team and we are the ones to blame. We need to take it. I’m sorry, that’s the only thing I can say to the fans.’’ Said the Captain.

Southampton will face Manchester City in their next two fixtures; in the Carabao Cup and in the Premier League.

The win to Leicester City moves them to second place in the Premier League table with 20 points, 5 behind League leaders Liverpool.

It was a record breaking night as Leicester City recorded the biggest away win the Premier League, equaling Manchester United’s 9-0 win over Ipswich in 1995.

The loss for Southampton moves them to the Relegation Zone in the Premier League table due to their goal difference.
