For a long time time, car makers have always sold one car to one individual at time. This model of business is quickly disappearing and Mercedes is using Croove as an end to that outdated model.
Croove is a car sharing service which was recently launched in Munich, Germany. Croove is simply a peer-to-peer sharing service. It is different from ReachNow of BMW or car2go of Daimler. The later two services provide cars for sharing in cities. They include private cars.
At the moment Croove is available only as an iOS app. There are plans for Mercedes to come up with an Android version. This will happen soon. The users are required to file out a profile for their cars in order to start operations. The app guides the owner in setting up the price to be applicable in renting the car. The car should not be more than 15 years old and be in good working condition.
The renters must be aged at least 21 years old and own a driving license. They use the app to find a car (here it sounds like Urber). Croove is part of the strategies that Mercedes is applying to improve connectivity, sharing, electric and autonomous driving.
