Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has joined Championship club Huddersfield Town on loan for the 2020-21 season.
Pereira, 24, joined United in 2012 and has made three appearances for the United first-team.
The Portugal Under-21 international has previously gained first-team experience at Rochdale, Belenenses, Vitoria Setubal, Kortrijk and, most recently, Hearts in Scotland.
Pereira would struggle for game-time at Old Trafford as he is behind David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Lee Grant in the Pecking order.
Dean Henderson also returned from a loan spell with Sheffield United meaning Pereira would struggle for any kind of first team football in the upcoming season.
Leigh Bromby, Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations told the club’s website: “Following the injury to Ryan Schofield, we felt it was important to have another senior goalkeeper in the group.
“Being able to attract a player with Joel’s ability shows the direction we are going in and that players believe they can develop under Carlos.
“Joel is a really interesting option for us and fits the way we want our goalkeepers to play.
“I’d like to thank Manchester United for their co-operation and for making this deal possible.”
Huddersfield Town manager Carlos Corberán said: “Joel Pereira is a player that covers all the demands we have from our goalkeepers. In terms of his reflexes, domination of the box, covering spaces and distribution of the play – all of these abilities are something that aren’t easy to find in a ‘keeper.
“For me it’s a very positive reaction from the Club, in terms of getting a replacement from Ryan Schofield’s injury.
“We are looking forward to working with players with potential that allow us to grow as a club.”
Pereira will wear the number 44 shirt at Huddersfield.
