Manchester United’s friendly against Stoke City was cancelled at the last minute after Stoke City’s manager Michael O’Neill tested positive for Covid-19.
The Red Devils were to play Stoke at the club’s Carrington training complex as they prepare for the return of the Premier League next week.
However, the game was cancelled shortly before kick-off after Stoke City players had begun arriving in their cars.
“Stoke can confirm that manager O’Neill has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus following the latest round of testing on Monday (June 8),” said Stoke City in a statement.
“He will now follow the relevant guidance and undergo a period of isolation, whilst continuing to be in regular virtual contact with his coaching staff and players.”
Michael O’Neill will now undergo a period of self-isolation.
Football activities in England were suspended in March due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
The Premier League is set to resume on June 17 and the Championship will return to action three days later.
