Malawi president Peter Mutharika has appointed a new electoral commission chairperson ahead of a presidential rerun, the BBC reports.
In February, the constitutional court in Malawi ordered a fresh presidential election to be held within 150 days after annulling last year’s re-election of President Mutharika.
Former commission chairperson Jane Ansah was criticised by the opposition leading to her resignation.
Justice Chifundo Kachale is the newly appointed commission chairman. He was appointed on Sunday by President Mutharika.
Other newly appointed commissioners are Antony Mukumbwa, Linda Kunje, Olivia Liwewe, Arthur Nanthuru, Jean Mathanga and Steve Duwa
The Mps will meet and decide the exact date of the election. There is a proposal for the election to be held on June 23.
