German Club Mainz 05 has confirmed the appointment of Achim Beierlorzer as the new Head Coach nine days after he was sacked by Cologne FC.
Achim Beierlorzer lost four matches in a row prompting Cologne FC to dismiss him. The 51 year old German has now signed a contract with Mainz 05 that runs up to the end of 2021/2022 season.
Mainz 05 are currently 16th in the Bundesliga table. Beierlorzer will now take over from Sandro Schwarz who departed the club after 3-2 loss to Union Berlin.
‘’It’s funny how football can work out; a week ago I was still at Cologne and now am the Head Coach at Mainz. Things can happen quickly in this business, especially when you can come to an agreement so easily.’’ Said Beierlorzer.
Beierlorzer also spoke about Manz’s great history.
‘’Mainz is a special club with great history, which I really respect. It’s a team with very clear football philosophy and it’s one I totally agree with-we want to play a fast game with lots of running and we want to play with a lot of passion. That’s how we want to entertain our fans. I am looking forward to getting to know my team and the rest of the club and I am excited to become part of the Mainz family’’ Added Beierlorzer.
Beierlorzer’s first match in charge will be on Sunday away against Hoffenheim-the team he faced in his final game with Cologne on 8th of November.
