Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli has ordered schools at all levels to reopen on June 29.
All learning institutions in Tanzania were closed in March over the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Magufuli made the announcement while addressing Parliament in Dodoma. He said: ‘’ Because of the reduced cases of coronavirus in the country, I would like to take this opportunity to announce the reopening of all remaining schools, and all social activities that were restricted like wedding celebrations should also resume.”
“Life must go back to normal,” he added.
President Magufuli however urged Tanzanians to observe hygiene measures as instructed by health authorities.
Final year and university students had resumed learning activities on 1st June.
Sports activities have also resumed in the East African country.
On Monday, PM Kassim Majaliwa announced that the country had only 66 active Covid-19 cases.
Tanzania recently opened airports for international passenger flights, becoming the first East African country to resume tourism activities.
President Magufuli’s issued the directives while proroguing parliament on Tuesday ahead of General Elections in October.
