Lions attack and eat man in a Game Reserve located in South Africa. The man was in his 30’s was attacked and eaten by lions at Dinokeng Game Reserve in South Africa.
Johannes Matshe was an employee of one of the landowners at the game reserve.
He was killed on August 13 and his body remains were found on Monday August 14, 2023.
Hartogh Streicher, the reserve’s spokesman confirmed the incident in a statement released on August 17.
“The individual was tragically attacked and killed by lions while attempting to navigate the reserve on foot after dark,” said Streicher.
“Walking within the DGR during the night, or at any time, is strictly forbidden in accordance with reserve regulations.”
The incident of Lions attack and eat man was discovered when the fencing team of the reserve came across what appeared as human remains at around 10:37 am on Monday.
“The operations manager responded promptly, confirming the unfortunate loss of life,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, the police were notified about the incident of Lions attack and eat man immediately.
“An investigation is underway,”
The Dinokeng Game Reserve have confirmed that they applied for permission of Gauteng Dept of Agriculture and Rural Development and Environment to euthanise the three lions involved in the incident.
The management team of the Game Reserve said that they are saddened by the incident and sent their condolences to the family of the deceased.
Streicher indicated that exiting vehicles or walking on foot inside the game reserve is always prohibited.
“This incident underscores the nee bd for both visitors and landowners to exercise caution when interacting with the reserve’s wildlife. By respecting the rules and adopting responsible behaviour, we can ensure a safer environment for all,” concluded Streicher.
