Limuru Town Kenya
Limuru Town is located approximately 30 kilometers to the North West of Nairobi. I have been to the town a number of times.
Limuru town is the headquarters of Limuru sub county in Kiambu County.
Limuru was known as “white Highlands” during the colonial times. It has fertile agricultural land hence they were grabbed from the colonialists.
Economic activities
Limuru is a tea producing and processing area just like Kericho, Kisii or Nyamira Counties.
The Mabroukie and Karirana Tea Estates are situated just outside Limuru town.
Bata Shoe Company
Bata Shoe company is located in Limuru town. This is considered to be the largest shoe manufacturing facility in East and Central Africa.
It is also a major source of employment in the area alongside Tea production and processing.
People of Limuru
Limuru is home to prominent people such as the famous writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o and Bishop Caesar Gatimu among others.
