Sharing is Caring

Let’s promote local musicians

Currently, Kenyans are campaigning to have the local radio stations play local content in order to promote local musicians.

“We can’t let a few people dictate what is happening and in essence this new movement of play Kenyan Music ….it goes beyond just music. We should embrace everything Kenyan. For example Nigerians are so patriotic. When you go abroad and meet a Nigerian, you will know he is a Nigerian. We need that patriotism to come back to our country…” said Joe Muchiri at 10/10 Show.

This was in reaction to the fact that most Kenyan media houses play foreign content instead of promoting local musicians. In their defense, they say that local musicians do not have good content. Therefore, the media houses are left with no option other than play foreign music. On this matter, Kenyans on Twitter aka KOT had a lot to say more especially about local musicians.

“#PlayKenyanMusic ndio but how can one listen to Khaligraph Jones song Stick, miti? Tawe,” asked Nerea Enock on Twitter

Many Kenyans have expressed their concerns that some of the Kenyan content especially in songs is not worth playing on radio or Television. This is subject to discussion.
