Sharing is Caring

For the past on week, tensions on land ownership have been reported in Ol Jorai. The land title of ownership is allegedly held by members of the Kikuyu Community.

The land in question is known as Mbugani in Ol Jorai area of Gilgil Constituency. Individuals hold varied number of acres from 5, 10, 20, 30 or even 50 acres.

This morning four buses full of people who had come to take ownership of their land had landed in Kongasis town.

The local residents who occupy the said land did not allow them to alight. Instead they were directed to use Kiambogo route and return to where they came from.

The mbugani area is occupied by mostly the members of the Maasai and Kisii community. The kisii people who own land ;in Mbugani have even constructed permanent houses in the area. Majority of the Maasai lease their parcels of land to other people who practice farming in the area.

I heard some of the affected members lamenting that those who had already sold their parcels and moved to buy land elsewhere are the ones who are lucky.

There are allegations that that the land belongs to powerful members of the Kikuyu community who have in the past worked on land exchange with the Kalenjin people of Solar in Nakuru county. However, this deal did not work as early planned.

This is a developing story. I shall keep you up to date.
