A fire is reported to have consumed some of the classrooms and dormitories in Kisumu High School. The fire emerged from one of the school dormitories that spread to nearby buildings including classes and other dormitories.
Students were in the classrooms for their morning preps as usual when they spotted the fire. Firefighters arrived after in short notice and managed to put off the fire.
They prevented the fire from spreading but some of the buildings were already badly damaged.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but investigation is ongoing. No casualties reported since by good luck all the students had moved from the dormitories to classes.
Students were able to remove their bedding before the fire increased. But for those whose belongings were in the dormitories were the fire started, they did not manage to get them out.
Duncan Owiye, the school principal, said that the school experienced high losses from the fire but as long as everyone was safe, the school will be quantified.
