The Kenyan government says it will be covering the costs of people who have been quarantined because they are suspected of having Coronavirus.
The move is aimed at encouraging Kenyans to turn out in large numbers for testing. This is a relief to many who had complained about being asked to pay quarantine costs. Turnout for mass testing in low income areas has been low.
‘’The cost of targeted testing and quarantine in government facilities shall be met by the government,’’ Health Cabinet Secretary said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
Most government facilities are charging at least Ksh 2,000 ($20) per day.
Meanwhile, the Kenyan government has banned movement in and out of Old Town area of Mombasa and Eastleigh area of Nairobi for 15 days. The two areas have recorded double-worrying figures in the past two days. The move was aimed at protecting the people within those areas.
Kenya has already confirmed 582 coronavirus cases with the virus claiming 26 lives.
