According to the Education Sector Working Group, Ksh. 453 billion was spent on education in FY 2018/2019. This was an increase from Ksh. 120.6 billion spent in FY 2016/2017.
The government of Kenya spends an excess of Ksh. 200 billion every year to pay salaries, allowances and other benefits for over 300,000 teachers across the country.
The report states that in Kenya there is a skewed distribution of teachers between the Arid and Semi Arid Areas and the high potential regions of the country. This challenge is brought about by insecurity in some parts of Kenya.
