The Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has assented to the controversial bill which was passed by the House of Assembly. The new law aims at creating four extra first class Emirates. These proposed emirates are: Bichi, Rano, Karaya and Gaya.

The law has now effectively decentralized the power of Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II. The Kano Emirate Council is equally decentralized.
The governor Abudullah Ganduje has been in conflict with the Emir of Kano.
