JAPAN RAISING ALARM OVER NATURAL DECLINE IN POPULATION

Government statistics in Japan shows that the country has experienced the biggest decline in population ever in 2018.
Japan has a very huge population made up of old people. The country also has a very low birthrate. The statistics shows that just 921,000 babied were born in 2018. This is the lowest number since 1899. This information was provided in a report published and released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
It is further estimated the number of newborns had reduced by 25,000 when compared to the figures from 2017.
In 2018, a total of 1.4 million Japanese died from various causes. Natural causes was the leading cause claiming 448,000 of the total deaths.
Japan is classified as a super-aged nation. This simply means that over 20 percent of her population are aged 65 and over.
Japan’s total population currently stands at over 124 million in 2018. Estimates show that the population will drop to about 88 million by the year 2065.
The top political leadership in Japan aims at preventing the population decline below the 100 million mark by 2060.
Recently, Japan allocated $18 billion equivalent to 2 trillion yens to be spent on expansion of free preschool education for children aged between 3 and 5 years. This will significantly reduce the waiting time to join those centers.
