Japan Football Association has approved 210Million yen in loans to 115 football clubs in Japan whose finances have been hit due to the coronavirus pandemic, Kyodo news agency has reported.
Football activities in Japan were suspended in February, leading to teams losing revenue.
The Japan Football Association had received loan requests from 138 clubs and the governing body had already disbursed funds for the first 71 clubs that were approved last week.
“We’re proceeding with a sense of urgency out of our desire to rescue these clubs,” JFA President Kozo Tashima said.
“Even as early as June, some clubs will be hanging on by a shoestring. Our financial resources are limited, but we will do as much as we can.”
More than 17,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Japan, with the virus claiming 812 lives.
Football matches in Japan’s top three divisions are on hold until at least 12th June.
