In this article we highlight of the the Zimbabwe protests 2018. Reports reaching us from Harare is that violent protests erupted in Zimbabwe after the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) which is the main the main opposition party claimed that the election results were fake.
The MDC presidential candidate claimed that he had won the elections. His supported marched through the streets of Harare and the army descended upon them with tear gas and live bullets.
Unspecified number of persons have been reported dead as a result of use of live bullets on the demonstrators.
This is the first election since independence that the Zimbabweans have gone to the polls without the name Robert Mugabe featuring.
The MDC protesters are reported to have set ablaze a bus belonging to ZANU-PF (the ruling party since independence).
The ruling party, ZANU- PF, is reported to have garnered 2/3 majority through winning 207 out of 210 constituencies. On the other hand, the MDC Alliance won 58 seats or just 28% of the total seats. A part from MDC and ZANU-PF, there were two other candidates one independent and the other from National Patriotic Front. Each of the latter two has won one parliamentary seat.
