Yesterday, Italy recorded 15,401 Covid-19 cases with 674 deaths and a Christmas lock-down was put in place. 

 

The Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, was forced to announce partial lock down countrywide. 

 

Freedom of movement is restricted from Dec 21 to Jan 6. 

 

According to Daily Mail of the UK, bodies of the Coronavirus victims were piled at car parks and churches. Italy, is generally struggling with the pandemic. 

 

Italy has the highest death toll in entire Europe with 68,000 fatalities. 

 

Italy’s Prime Minister was concerned that the family gatherings during the Christmas season will trigger more infections. 

 

The lock down will allow personal visits to friends and family but not more than people per day. 

 

Veneto is the worst hit area in Italy. 

 

Authorities plan to keep coffins in churches after hospital morgues especially in Montebelluna was overflowing. 

 

In Legnano, a refrigerated container is placed at the hospital car park to handle the surging number of deaths. 

 

In addition to the lock-down, Italians will bear with a 10pm – 5 am curfew during the period. 

 

After Italy largest daily average of fatalities, other countries in Europe have high daily fatalities with Russia recording 542 deaths per day while Germany records 431 followed by Britain 424 and Poland 397.
