The President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, 63, has been killed in an helicopter crash. He was destined to replace the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

 

In 1980s Raisi was a prosecutor involved in mass execution of political prisoners which he had denied. The president was traveling in a convoy of three helicopters.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also alongside the president and several others. President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling to Tabriz City located to the north west of Iran.

 

This news has been reported by Iranian media houses such as Mehr and Tasnim. So far there has not been any official confirmation of the death.

A Bell 212 was carrying the former president of Iran Ebrahim Raisi when he died. BBC reported that Iran has a poor air transport safety record.

About Ebrahim Raisi 

Ebrahim Raisi was born in 1960 in Mashad which is the second biggest city in Iran. He was a cleric just like his father. At the age 25 he became a deputy prosecutor in Tehran and worked in several cities while being trained by Ayatollah Khamenei who served as president from 1981. Later he became the judiciary boss.

He succeeded Hassan Rouhani as president in 2021.

According to Article 131 of Iran’s constitution, when a president dies, the first deputy assumes presidency and elections have to be conducted within a period of 50 days.

 

Mohammad Mokhber is the person who will assume the position of president for a short period.

 

Ebrahim Raisi net worth 

It is estimated that Ebrahim Raisi had a net worth of $110 billion. He owned a stockpile of gold estimated to be worth $10 billion plus hundreds of real estate properties in the United Arab Emirates. The gold owned by the president is suspected to be stored in a series of underground bunkers and tunnels through out Iran. Some of the gold was received from Russia and China in exchange for Uranium and weapons.

President Raisi owned more that 100 mansions across Iran. He also owned more than 30,000 square miles of land. Further he owned 2 passenger ships, 8 yachts, 15 cargo ships, had investment abroad valued at $19 billion.
