According to International Rescue Committee (IRC), African countries are at risk of having undiscovered coronavirus outbreaks due to low testing rates.
South Africa, Mali, Chad and Nigeria are listed as having the lowest testing rates in the continent.
Nigeria has conducted just 40,000 tests out of a total population of 200Million people.
The total number of people in South Africa is 57 Million but the country has only managed to conduct 525,433 tests.
The IRC is appealing for international support to those countries that have low testing rates.
IRC praised Uganda for ‘’instituting early mitigation measures.
The organization has however expressed concerns over countries like Tanzania whose data on coronavirus is not shared publicly.
This “makes tracking the spread of the virus, particularly amongst the world’s most vulnerable, all the more challenging”, the IRC said.
