The Commission of Revenue Allocation proposed that in 2016/2017 county governments will receive Kshs 16 billion to be used in rehabilitation primary, secondary and village polytechnics infrastructure and pay employees in the education sector. This will give the governors a greater role in improving education standards in their counties.
The Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of Kenya has devolved Early Childhood Development Education and Village Polytechnics. This means, the counties will have more say beyond the nursery schools that they are controlling currently.
