Kenya was represented at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by more than 40 athletes including world champions such as Hellen Obiri.

 

Kenya earned 9 medals out of which 3 were gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze. Kenya was ranked at number 25 out of 85 countries which participated at the Tokyo Olympics. 

 

More than 40 athletics represented Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics. 

 

According to World Athletics, Kenya was represented by the following athletes: 

 

WOMEN
400m: Hellen Syombua
800m: Emily Cherotich Tuei, Mary Moraa, Eunice Sum
1500m: Winny Chebet, Faith Kipyegon
5000m: Lilian Kasait Rengeruk, Hellen Obiri, Agnes Tirop
10,000m: Sheila Chelangat, Irene Cheptai, Hellen Obiri
Marathon: Ruth Chepngetich, Bridget Kosgei, Peres Jepchirchir
20km race walk: Emily Ngii
3000m steeplechase: Beatrice Chepkoech, Purity Cherotich Rionoripo, Hyvin Kiyeng

On August 4, Kenya’s first gold was won by Emmanuel Korir in 800 meters race. Kenya will reward him Ksh. 1,088,000. 

 

Faith Kipyegon won the second gold medal in women’s 1,500 meters. Peres Jepchirchir also won a gold medal in women’s marathon. 

 

Compensation for medals 

Kenya will be offering Ksh. 1,088,000 for gold medals won by Kenyans from the Tokyo Olympics 2020. 

Singapore is offering $1 million approximately Ksh. 100 million for each gold medal won by the country’s athletes at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Joseph Schooling won an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
