Al Qaida has been a long-term enemy of the United States and its allies. After the death of Osama bin Laden in 2011, Ayman al-Zawahiri took over the al Qaida leadership. Here is the trail on how Ayman found himself in the group.
He was born in 19th June 1951, in a middle-class family in Cairo. After studies, he earned a medical degree as a surgeon.
Ayman became a doctor who operated in a slam in Egypt in 1980 before someone came offering him to be a doctor for the Soviet forces. Ayman took the offer and that’s how he found himself the head of al Qaida.
He already had a military experience and in few weeks in Afghanistan, he realized he would train Muslim mujahideen youth and form a group that would repel with America and rule the world.
Ayman al-Zawahiri and Osama bin Laden formed a very powerful resistance, including the attacked made across the world.
Osama came from a wealthy family and hence provided funds to run the organization while Ayman had known some concepts of underground revolutionary, tactical and organizational skills. Ayman was able to plan successful attacks.
Some of the attacks planed by Ayman include the bombing of Unite States embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 that killed more than 200 people.
Later, the US military invaded Afghanistan to make Ayman and Bin Laden face the justice but they managed to escape leaving their families behind. A US airstrike killed Ayman’s wife and two of six children.
