A homeless male sex offender in New York City who was released from state prison in 2020 has been arrested over alleged rape of a prostitute while holding her hostage for 5 days in an abandoned building.
Timothy Harnett, 44, a homeless man who is better known as “Lawless” was indicted by New York prosecutors for alleged kidnap and rape of a 28 year-old between 29 April and 2 May.
“The defendant allegedly held a 28-year-old woman captive for days, raping and beating her with a tire iron. The victim managed to escape with the help of a passerby,” Clark said in a statement. “The defendant has been indicted on multiple charges for terrorizing this woman.”
According to prosecutors, the homeless man offered the woman money in exchange for sex and the two went upstairs in a building that had been damaged by fire.
However, when the victim turned her back the homeless man hit her on the leg using a tire iron which caused her to fall to the floor which led to her dislocated knee.

While holding the prostitute captive, he raped her several times a day. On May 2 the woman escaped and sought refuge at the nearest laundromat.
The woman used a bar of iron to break a window and used the pieces of broken window glass to cut the rope that tied her feet.
She waved down a passer-by, who helped her dial 911 and flagged down a New York police patrol car. She was taken to hospital to nurse her injuries.
Later police arrested Harnett in another abandoned building in Harlem. The homeless man is a registered level 3 sex offender- this is the highest level in New York state.
He has now been convicted for sodomy by a Bronx jury. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison in the past.
On May 14, 1999 he was accused of threatening a 15-year-old girl with a razor blade and forced her into an hotel where he held her captive for several hours where he sexually assaulted her.
According to police records, he was released from prison in December 2020 but completed parole in Sep 2021.
He was indicted on Monday on three counts of first-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, third-degree rape and four counts of first-degree criminal sexual act by Raymond Bruce of Bronx Supreme Court Justice.
