Hansi Flick will remain interim Head Coach for Bayern Munich at least for the rest of 2019, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed.
Bayern Munich replaced Niko Kovac in the wake of 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt-their largest defeat in 10 years.
Hansi Flick has led the Bundesliga giants to a 2-0 victory over Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League and a 4-0 win thrashing of Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.
These performances have earned Hansi Flick the confidence of CEO Rummenigge, outgoing Bayern Munich president Uli Hoenness and Director Hasan Salihamidzic.
‘’Uli, Hasan and I announced after the Dortmund match that Hansi would be our coach until further notice,’’ Rummenigge Said at Bayern Munich’s annual general meeting.
‘’We decided that he will be coach until after Christmas and possibly beyond. We trust Hansi Flick’’ He added.
Various candidates had been linked with the position since Niko Kovac departed. Ajax’s Erik Ten Hag, RasenBallsport Leipzig Head Coach Ralf Rangnick, former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola were touted as long term targets. Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was also linked with the position before landing a new role at FIFA.
