Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia fell to a heavy defeat to USM Alger in their first round CAF Champions League match that was played on Sunday night. K’Ogalo lost 4-1 in that match. The game was played at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria.
Mohammed Mefta and Zakaria Benchaa scored twice each for USM Alger as Gor Mahia’s only goal was scored by captain Kenneth Muguna through a penalty.
The return leg of the CAF champions league will be played on Sunday 29th September at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi.
For Gor Mahia to proceed with their CAF Champions league campaign this season, they have a mountain to climb in the second leg. They have to win with a 3-0 margin. USM Alger only need a draw to proceed.
Newly appointed Gor Mahia head coach Steven Polack believes that the 18 time Kenyan Premier League Champions can still qualify.
‘’It is not yet over. It can be done, it has been done before in football. We lost to USM Alger not because we were a poor team but due to little mistakes and loss of concentration. We had 16 players but one or two have the experience of playing continental matches. I don’t want to blame any player or management but I take responsibility for the defeat,” Said Polack.
