- Easy to get a job
There are many business schools around the world which hire graduates with Economics PhDs. You can work as a well paid consultant, work in finance and many other government agencies. Basically, I’m saying that graduates with Economics PhDs are not likely to remain unemployed. Noah Smith calls an econ PhD a “direct escalator to the upper middle class.”
2) You get freedom
Economics PhD graduates pay their way through teaching. Professors can employ you as a research assistant. This gives you a lot of ample time to work on your research projects
3) Intellectual fulfillment
With an econ PhD, allows you to have an in-depth thinking about problems facing mankind and seek solutions to such problems. As an econ you get to learn about a punch of other fields such as statistics, sociology, maths, psychology and even history. This freedom is not available to PhD students in other fields such as hard sciences (Physics, Chemistry or Biology).
