A spokesman of German leader Chancellor Angela Merkel has indicated that Trump’s eviction from Twitter is problematic.
While conducting the forced eviction, Twitter cited “risk of further incitement of violence” following supporters of the outgoing president storming the U.S. Capitol.
The spokesperson, Steffen Seibert, said that social media corporations “bear great responsibility for political communication not being poisoned by hatred, by lies and by incitement to violence.”
German law forces social media corporations to remove possibly illegal material within 24 hours of notification or face up to USD $60.8 million in fines.
Chancellor Angela Merkel does not have a Twitter account, but her spokesman, Seibert, does and many German government ministers also have accounts with the social media company.
