The German Bundesliga is set to be given green light to resume, probably as from mid-May. The league campaign was brought to a halt since March due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
The Bundesliga is set to become the first major European league to resume after a stoppage that has seen football activities across the globe put on hold since March.
The German states will agree on a restart date with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday 6th May. Matches are expected to be played behind closed doors and under strict conditions.
Portugal Primera Liga is expected to resume on 30th May 2020.
Clubs in Germany have been training in small groups since mid-April under strict conditions.
The League is expected to resume and the German Football League (DFL) has already carried out 1724 coronavirus tests on players and staff of its 36 clubs from Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga. 10 tested positive and they have been isolated from the rest.
The DFL is planning for a second round of tests next week to avoid ‘false negative’ tests of the first round.
Some reports indicate that hopes of a restart have been hampered by behaviour of Hertha Berlin midfielder Salomon Kalou. The former Chelsea midfielder posted a video on Facebook on Monday of him shaking hands with his team-mates during a medical examination thus breaking government regulations of combating coronavirus. Hertha Berlin reacted by suspending the Ivorian despite him apologising.
