On July 15, 2012 South Korean rapper and singer Psy released a music video which went viral worldwide. The singer in the video was wearing a bright blue tuxedo.
The song featured an energetic dance and horse-riding. A catch lyric “Oppan Gangnam style” made it even more popular.
“Gangnam Style” went viral on YouTube. The song was played by many television stations around the world. It was shared on social media.
Psy was featured prominently wearing sunglasses and slicked-back hairstyle.
The song became the first video to hit 1 billion views on YouTube. Psy was already popular in South Korea but was unknown around the world. Within one year, he broke 3 Guinness World Records and was invited to perform at the Madison Square Garden in New York with Madonna.

The singer from Soul in South Korea never imagined that he would achieve such high-level of success.
The song “Gangnam Style” is said to have helped spread the South Korean culture globally.
“Without the big hit that was ‘Gangnam Style,’ there may not have been BTS, there may not have been Blackpink,” Lee says.
The “Gangnam Style” might have gone viral because its danceable and catch.
Psy never replicated the success of “Gangnam Style” but he has spent the last 10 years proving himself by producing full-length albums that showcase is talents and dance styles.
He is still filling venues across South Korea using his annual concert series “Summer Swag” which was initially cancelled due to the pandemic outbreak.
Psy has a mission to “make fun music, fun dances and bring joy to my fans.”
