Researchers in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America have come up with a device that measures power consumption of individual devices. It accurately records the amount of power consumed by every appliance in your home.
This smart device was highlighted in a scientific publication in a recent edition of IEEE Sensors Journal. The device is easy to install and it is secured on a power line. The sensor is the size of a stamp but it has capabilities of monitoring power for individual devices through the help of special software. It is also capable of isolating time segments at the times when a refrigerator goes into defrost.
This special device relies on cloud-based servers in order to increase the privacy of users. This is a special feature that gives the device an edge. The product has not been officially launched in the market. The university estimates that the price of power consumption device will range between USD$25 and USD$30 per piece.
