The Azimio La Umoja One presidential running mate Martha Karua has said that the aim of Gachagua was to provoke her. Gachagua is the Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate under the Deputy president William Ruto. The two were involved in the debate of the deputies held on July 19.
Since the debate, it was the first time Karua came out to speak about the debate. She said that Rigathi Gachagua’s mission to provoke her yielded no fruits as she remain cool, and this disappointed Gachagua. She also said that Gachagua ran out of the topic because he did not have an agenda.

‘When you don’t have an agenda and you are afraid of your history, you don’t want peaceful talks but throwing words. What took me there was to explain our Azimio agenda and not conflict, it was not my first time to attend a debate, or being on TV. There are debate procedures, I abided with them,” she added.
On the other hand the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga said that he and the Azimio family was proud of Karua’s mastery of the matters that she raised.
“Your poise, mastery of subject matters, and staying calm even when provoked were impressive. I congratulate my able deputy and team member Martha Karua. The Azimio family stands proud of your performance during last night’s debate. Keep selling,” Raila tweeted.
