The Nation Media Group has called upon the police to investigate how the funeral announcement was placed on their newspaper bearing the name James Wanjagi but an image and details of the famous businessman James Richard Wanjigi . The advert was published in Wednesday’s edition on page 49.
The advertiser announced that James died on 30th January and was buried on 6th February 2016. The death allegedly happened after an armed robbery failed in his home, Karen Estate.
The Nation Media Group said that it does not condone such adverts, which is against the editorial policies. The company has taken an immediate action against those involved in the publication of death announcement. They have invited the police to carry out investigations on the matter.
The names are mixed up in the obituary, ‘Wanjagi and Wanjigi’. The advert included exact details of the Jimmy Wanjigi, a prominent businessman and the opposition supporter. The information includes the names of the father, his wife, the school of his children and his company.
The announcement has caused an uproar after emerging on the Nation Daily newspaper. The funeral was to take place on 6th February. Kenyans did not take the death announcement lightly.
The Nation Media Group apologized for erroneously announcing the death of Jimmy Wanjigi who is still alive.
