The highest administrative court in France on Tuesday blocked the relegation of Amiens and Toulouse from Ligue 1.
The court however rejected Lyon’s appeal against ending the season early.
A statement summarising the ruling read: ‘’The judge in the Council of State ‘’validates the end of season but suspends relegation.’’
The French Ligue (LFP) ended the season late in April due to the coronavirus pandemic after the French government banned all sporting activities until at least September.
Paris Saint-Germain were awarded the Ligue 1 title and Toulouse and Amiens were relegated.
10 rounds of fixtures were remaining to end the season.
The judge ordered the French Ligue (LFP) to re-examine with the French Football Federation the proposed format for Ligue 1 next season, which could feature 22 teams instead of the usual 20.
