Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs was born in 1930 on a small Island of Abonnema in River State.

Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs was the founder and Chairman of Moni Pulo Limited an oil exploration and production company. Forbes estimate that Briggs was worth $500 million. He was the richest and most famous son of the Kalabari ethnic community in Nigeria.

Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs died in Ghana on December 2018 while on a Christmas holiday with his family. This means that his burial was delayed for more than 2 years.

Sources indicate that the will that was left behind by Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs was the source of conflict in his household. The will allocated most of his wealth to his wife Sienye and little to his sons. The sons accused their step mother for creating a fake will insisting that the original will had not yet been released. Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs was buried on 13 March 2021 following a long legal battle among family members. Various dignitaries attended his burial such as Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience Jonathan and Donald Duke a former Governor of River State were among the dignitaries who attended the funeral of the High Chief Briggs. 

 

Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs was one of the Nigerians who were awarded concessions to explore and produce oil during the liberation of the oil and gas under former President Ibrahim Babangida – military ruler between 1985 – 1993.
