Indian football banned by FIFA over “undue influence from third parties”.
The suspension by FIFA reduces the chances of India hosting the Under-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled for October.
In May, the highest court in India disbanded the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and in its place appointed a committee to govern the sport. This was against FIFA rules which stipulate that member federations must remain free from political and legal interference.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA said that they met football stakeholders in India and agreed on a roadmap for the AIFF which has to change their rules and hold elections by the end of 15 September.
“The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,” Fifa added.
