Fernando Torres retires from football

Fernando Torres has retired from playing football at 35. He played his final match for Sagan Tosu yesterday.

Torres had announced his retirement date in June.

His team Sagan Tosu lost the game 6-1 to Vissel Kobe which features his former Spain teammates Andreas Iniesta and David Villa. Torres made a total of 110 appearances for the Spain national team in his football career and scored 38 goals. He was also part of the Spain squad that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Fernando Torres started his football career with Atletico Madrid in 2001. He scored 82 goals in 214 appearances for tha Laliga club before moving to Liverpool in 2007. He went on to make 102 appearances for the Merseyside Club scoring 65 goals in the process.

In 2011, he moved to Chelsea where he scored 20 goals in 110 appearances.

The London based club loaned him to AC Milan in 2014 and Atletico Madrid in 2015. In 2016, he made a move to Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

He scored a total of 109 goals for Atletico Madrid in a total of 321 games since 2001.

In 2018, he left Atletico Madrid for Japanese club Sagan Tosu where he scored 5 goals in 34 appearances.
