Fear for Change
Always when there is change looming in the horizon, many people naturally resist.
In 1891, electricity was installed in the White House. This was the first time in 12 years since Thomas Alva Edison invented electricity in 1879.
The-then-President Benjamin Harrison refused to touch the electric switches which controlled lighting in each room. This is why gas lighting was initially used alongside the electric power.
