Lately, the road reserves in Mombasa County have been serving as the unofficial dumpsites for solid waste collection.
The residents are not happy at all about this state of affairs. During December 2017, Mombasa County Deputy Governor Dr. William Kingi blamed the police for taking away solid waste collection equipment from the county yard at Kibarani.
According to the police, the trailers and trucks which are alleged to have been confiscated belonged to private investor.
DANIDA has estimated that Mombasa County produces 750 tonnes of solid waste every single day out of which Mombasa County is able to collect less than half of that solid waste. After collection, the garbage is dumped at Kibarani as well as at Mwakirunge.
