After the lockdown conditions were eased down some people in Germany attended church on 10 May 2020 and an excess of 40 of them have been infected with Covid-19. This happened in Frankfurt. This is according to reports released by the city’s health agency.
The management team of Evangelical Christian Baptist Church confirmed the news but stated that all the rules had been adhered to during the service. He added that 6 of the infected were taken to an health facility.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that a minimum of 16 of those infected were residents of Hanau located in the East of Frankfurt. This has made Frankfurt city to call off an event which was planned by the Muslim faithful scheduled on Sunday.
Germany eased the lockdown following a massive decline in the number of cases confirmed. This triggered a second wave of Covid-19 infections. For the last two weeks people have reopened schools, shops and Bundesliga became the first major European football league to resume despite the ongoing pandemic.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as at 25 May there were 178,281 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 8,247 deaths and 431 news cases reported in Germany.
