Everton FC have sacked manager Marco Silva after losing 5-2 to Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.

The result left Everton in the relegation zone and the club announced Silva’s sacking on Thursday bringing to an end the Portuguese tactician’s 18th month stay at The Goodison Park.

In a statement, Everton FC said:’’Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the club.

‘’Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors would like to thank Marco Silva for his service for the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.’’

Former Everton strikek Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for their clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

Marco Silva, who previously manager Watford, Hull City and Sporting CP led Everton to finish at position eight in the Premier League last season.

Marco Silva becomes the fifth manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season after Javi Gracia and Sanchez Flores at Watford, Mauricio Pochettinho at Tottenham and Unai Emery at Arsenal.

Former Everton manager David Moyes has been tipped as to rejoin the Club as Marco Silva’s replacement.
