Capital Ethiopia has reported that the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia plans to promote primary and secondary students to the next class without any proper exams with an exception of 8th and 12th grades.
Haregua Mamo, the Communication Director of the Ministry of Education said that: “Because our plan is to get all our students back to their education and we have decided to pass all our students to the next grade”
Ethiopia is estimated to have an excess of 20 million students. The minister of education further indicated that the grade 8 and 12 students will have to take their studies for 1.5 months before taking up their examinations which is compulsory.
Currently, the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia is using various platforms to continue with education services. This includes: using of online platforms, public television to offer training for students as well as teachers.
In Ethiopia, the 8-4-4 system is followed and students are required to sit for the grade 8 exams before proceeding to secondary school and later to university.
