Esperance FC declared African Champions
Tunisian club Esperance FC have been declared Champions of Africa. This comes after Wydad Casablanca of Morocco stormed of the pitch after 60 minutes to protest after a VAR malfunction ensured that a disallowed equalizer could not be reviewed in the 2nd leg of the Final.
The CAF disciplinary committee made the decision yesterday. ‘’ The Wydad Athletic club is considered to have lost the game in the final 2nd Leg, a fine of 50,000 USD is imposed on the club for the abandonment of the match and a fine of 15,000 USD is imposed for the use of flares by supporters.’’
This means Esperance have retained the title they won in 2018. Esperance were also fined 50,000 USD because of using smoke bombs and projectiles. Esperance president Meddeb Mohamed was also fined $20,000 for his conduct against CAF Chief Ahmad Ahmad.
